Every entry in a Directory corresponds to an actual object, e.g. a company, a division or a person. The entry contains a number of attributes that define the object. Each object inherits the actual number and kind of attributes defining it from the object class to which it belongs. Within the class hierarchy attributes are passed on, similar to object oriented programming.<br><br>The entirety of information within a Directory is called Directory Information Base (DIB). An Information or Data Modell describes the building blocks of the Directory as a schema. It contains, among other things, the metadata for available object classes and attribute types.<br><br>Source: Florian Löffler, SA: Entwicklung und Implementierung einer
